CLARKSBURG FUNERAL DIRECTOR WINS $40,000

11/19/2009

Joe Nutter said he thought he had won $10,000 in the Powerball drawing held Nov. 18 and was calm as a cucumber. “Then it dawned on me that the dollar I spent for the PowerPlay option quadrupled it to $40,000, and wasn’t quite so calm.”

At 73, the Lost Creek resident and retired Clarksburg funeral director said he had never received so much for having done so little. “It was a fairly good return on the money I spent for 15 tickets. Until now, I had just won $100 prizes.”

West Virginia Lottery Director John Musgrave confirmed that Nutter bought his winning tickets from B&S One-Stop in West Milford. The winning numbers were 32-42-50-58-59 PB: 31.

The PowerPlay multiplier drawn was four, which parlayed Nutter’s $10,000 prize for matching four of the white numbers and the Powerball into a $40,000 prize.

Asked how he planned to spend his windfall, Nutter said he would pay some bills, “and putt the rest in the bank.”
