CHARLESTON MAN WINS $25,000; PENNSBORO WOMAN WINS $50,000

12/29/2009

Whether it’s a belated Christmas gift or an early March birthday gift, John Dixon, 71, said he considers his $25,000 West Virginia Lottery prize a gift, nonetheless. “These weren’t even numbers I picked…of five Cash25 tickets I bought yesterday for the night’s drawing, this was the one that was easy pick,” he said.

Bought at 7-Eleven on Jefferson Road in South Charleston for the drawing held Dec. 28, the ticket numbers were 1-2-4-6-10 and 20, according to Lottery Director John Musgrave.

Retired from Hobit Mining, the Charleston resident said he planned to spend his prize on his children. Dixon and his wife have two grown children, three grandchildren and one great grandchild.

In addition, Musgrave said Michelle Hatfield, 39, of Pennsboro, claimed a $50,000 prize from the instant game Holiday Slots. The ticket was purchased from 7-Eleven in Pennsboro.

Recently laid off from a window manufacturing company, Hatfield said she plans to buy and new car, “and hopefully buy the house we are renting.” She is the mother of three children.
