St. Albans Couple wins $20,000 Powerball Prize

12/16/2011

Denny and Kim Keiffer of St. Albans received an early Christmas present this week, when Kim found she had a Powerball ticket worth $20,000 in her pocketbook.

"I play Powerball every week  and I have a set of numbers I always play and then I also play some easy pick," Kim explained. "I saw the numbers for this particular drawing and knew they were not my regular so I carried the ticket around for about a week before I took it in to be checked. The clerk told me I was a big winner and would have to take it to the lottery office in Charleston to claim and I could not believe it."

Denny said his wife plays Powerball regularly and always plays with the Powerplay option. Because of this, the couple had their prize for matching four numbers plus the powerball doubled to $20,000. Kim turned in the winning ticket at Lottery Headquarters in Charleston on Thursday evening. The ticket was for the December 7, 2011 Powerball drawing that had a x2 powerplay.

West Virginia Lottery Director John Musgrave said that Kim bought the winning ticket at Joe's Mart on Kanawha Terrace in St. Albans.

The couple who has two grown children and four grandchildren says they will use the winnings to make some home improvements and pay some bills.
