West Virginia Lottery Announces Plans for 25th Anniversary Celebration

Sponsoring Sugarland in Concert at the Charleston Civic Center

Charleston, WV – The West Virginia Lottery today announced plans for its 25th Anniversary Celebration during a Press Conference at the Charleston Civic Center. The announcement included the unveiling of the Lottery's sponsorship of the country music duo Sugarland, featuring special guest Sara Bareilles, in concert at the Charleston Civic Center on June 16, 2011. The Lottery also announced the upcoming launch of a special six-week Powerball®/Mega Millions™ $weet Deal Promotion in conjunction with the event.

Beginning March 20, 2011, West Virginia Lottery players who purchase a single $5 Powerball® ticket with Power Play® ($10 total purchase) or a single $5 Mega Millions™ ticket with Megaplier™ ($10 total purchase) are automatically qualified for a chance to win two free tickets to the Sugarland concert. The Lottery's special promotion, titled “$weet Deal,” will run through April 30, 2011 at all licensed West Virginia Lottery retail locations, while concert ticket supplies last. With a qualifying purchase, winners will be randomly selected to instantly receive a Voucher to claim their prize by Mail or in person at West Virginia Lottery headquarters in Charleston.

“This sponsorship has provided us with a unique opportunity to celebrate our anniversary and provide our players with another chance at extending their entertainment dollars through non-traditional cash prizes,” said John C. Musgrave, West Virginia Lottery. “It is our hope that this promotion will improve sales of two of our most popular online games and ultimately return a larger portion of revenue to support the many programs Lottery dollars fund across the State.”

The Lottery will also continue the excitement of its anniversary celebration during the entire month of May with a “25 Days of Fun” statewide promotion. Details and information for the 25th Anniversary Celebration including events, special games, and promotions will be available on the Lottery’s website at wvlottery.com.

In the past 25 years, the West Virginia Lottery has generated more than $15 billion in sales with more than $5.6 billion transferred to the State of West Virginia.
