West Virginia Lottery Celebrates 28 Years

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The West Virginia Lottery is celebrating its 28th anniversary by giving away prizes of $1 million, $100,000, and $10,000 to three finalists at 2 p.m. on Thursday (January 9) at West Virginia Lottery Headquarters in Charleston.

The three finalists were selected out of thousands of entries from the Lottery’s popular Monopoly Millionaire Instant game and all three will be present on Thursday to determine who walks away with the $1 million prize, the $100,000 prize or the $10,000 prize. The finalists are Josh Schoolcraft of Given, W.Va.; Douglas Schafer of Wheeling, W.Va.; and Todd Kingrey of Charleston, W.Va.
 
Since the Lottery’s inception in 1986, the State of West Virginia has benefited from more than $7.4 Billion in lottery proceeds that have been used for such worthwhile causes as strengthening public education, providing important senior services and programs, and improving the state’s tourism industry.

West Virginia Lottery players have also won more than $2.5 billion in prizes from traditional lottery games alone (Online games such as Powerball, Mega Millions, Hot Lotto and Cash 25 and instant scratch off games) since 1986.
