West Virginia Residents Split $10,000 Powerball® Prize
May 2, 2012CHARLESTON, W.Va. – West Virginia Lottery Director John C. Musgrave announced today that Edward Young and William Compton of Mt. Clare, W.Va., have split a $10,000 Powerball® prize from the April 21st drawing.
Young, 92, and Compton, 77, purchased the winning ticket at the Hyatt on Rt. 2 in Bridgeport.
Young was married for 50 years before losing his wife 20 years ago. He served during World War II and was a prisoner of war in Germany for 11 months. He has two children.
Compton is divorced and has six children.
The pair often goes to lunch together after church on Sunday’s and about six weeks ago they decided to start playing Powerball® for the first time. After purchasing their two easy pick plays for the April 21 drawing, the duo gave Mr. Young’s daughter the newspaper and the ticket and asked her to check their ticket. That’s when they realized they had matched four numbers and won $10,000.
